Binge Drinking May Trigger Overeating
A study found that consuming more than three large glasses of wine can lead people to overeat, potentially causing weight gain. The survey suggests this “tipping point” can result in consuming an additional 6,300 calories over the next day, which could translate to weight gain of around 2 pounds per week.
While some participants reported unhealthy food choices like chips and pizza after exceeding this limit, experts cautioned that the study reflects trends and not definitive scientific evidence.
The research, commissioned by Slimming World, also indicated that people who drank more than the suggested limit were more likely to skip exercise and engage in sedentary activities the following day. This could further contribute to weight gain.
The study’s findings support the connection between alcohol consumption and obesity. Experts recommend public awareness campaigns to educate people about the calorie content of alcoholic drinks and the impact of drinking on weight management.
