He was of&nbsp;Berber&nbsp;origin from the&nbsp;sanhaja&nbsp;Berber tribe. His relatives were from the neighborhood of&nbsp;\u1e62afr\u016b. &#8220;\u0100djurr\u016bm&#8221; is a&nbsp;Berber&nbsp;word meaning &#8220;religious man&#8221; and &#8220;poor&nbsp;\u1e63\u016bf\u012b&#8221; (ascetic, Shil\u1e25a: agurram). His grandfather, D\u0101w\u016bd, is said to have been the first to bear the name.[2][3]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">He died on Sunday March 1, 1323. He was buried the next day within the town in&nbsp;Adwat Al-Andalus, the Andalusi quarter near B\u0101b al-Hamra, also known as B\u0101b al-J\u012bzyin.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>A text entitled&nbsp;Muqaddima&nbsp;(\u0645\u0642\u062f\u0651\u0645\u0629) &#8220;Prolegomena&#8221; bears the author&#8217;s name. In full,&nbsp;Al-Muqadimma al-Adjurrumiya fi Mabadi Ilm al-Arabiya,&nbsp;or&nbsp;Matn Al-Ajrumiyyah&nbsp;(\u0645\u062a\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0642\u062f\u0645\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0622\u062c\u0631\u0648\u0645\u064a\u0629), commonly abbreviated to&nbsp;Al-\u0100jurr\u016bm\u012byya. This short treatise of a few pages, sets out the system of the&nbsp;\u02bei\u02bfrab&nbsp;(\u0627\u0639\u0631\u0627\u0628) (grammatical desinential inflection). The Mu\u1e33addima summarizes the complex rules of Arabic syntax into a concise, clear and intelligible format, that is easy to memorize. For its brevity and utility it has maintained a wide popularity among Arabic language teachers and students across&nbsp;Arabophone&nbsp;countries and over 60 commentaries by later grammarians have been produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Known in Europe from the 16th century, the&nbsp;Muqaddima&nbsp;was one of the first treatises available to European&nbsp;Arabists&nbsp;for the study of the Arabic grammatical system. Translations have been regularly and widely published in most European languages. It was published in twelve different European versions and editions.[5]&nbsp;A Latin translation of Ibn Adjurrum&#8217;s Arabic grammar was made by the Italian Franciscan friar,&nbsp;Thomas Obicini of Novara, who had lived for a time as an abbot in&nbsp;Aleppo, and published in Italy in 1621 with the title&nbsp;Grammatica Arabica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Al-Suyuti&nbsp;(Bughya, 102) places ibn \u0100jurr\u016bm stylistically in the K\u016bfah School of grammar, based on his use of the&nbsp;genitive&nbsp;term &#8220;khaf\u1e0d,&#8221; (\u062e\u0641\u0636), the desinentially inflective imperative &#8220;mu\u02bfrab&#8221; (\u0645\u0639\u0631\u0628), and the &#8220;kayfam\u0101&#8221; (\u0643\u064a\u0641\u0645\u0627) particle (\u062d\u0631\u0641) &#8220;\u1e25arf&#8221;, to govern the apocopate form &#8220;jazm&#8221; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SP RECOMMENDS Ibn Adjurrum was born at Fez in 1273-4.
